II Roughing the hand

Now we have seen the principles we will apply, let start the serious things. I will assume you know how to use basic functions of Blender, if you are a beginner, this tutorial is most certainly a bit hard.

Important : A rough is only a rough, you must get the proportions right of course, but dont bother yet about fine placement.
We start from the wrist shape. A simple 8 vertices deformed circle. It is important to be aligned with one axis. hands-001.jpg
From this circle extrude 2 times, deforming again the circle to get a sightly convex box.
Observe your own hand to get an idea of how much you need. Keep the palm side parallel to top.
Size it up a bit on the sides too.

Subdivide the top and bottom edges once, not the side ones.
Extrude once and subdivide again (still selecting only top and bottom edges, not the sides).
Shape the border along a gentle arc, the fingers are not all at the same height.

Fill the front faces, use the knive to subdivide. Fill the sides. hands-005.jpg
Use the rotate edge function (CTRL-EKEY) to form fingers base according to picture. Make sure the relative sizes of the futures finger are OK hands-006.jpg
In edge mode, subdivide finger edges. Size up the 4 new vertex to get a nice round shape. hands-008.jpg
Use merge function (Alt-MKEY) on the 4 corners edges. hands-009.jpg
Select vertex as on picture. hands-010.jpg
With the knive (exact line mode), cut a small circle. hands-011.jpg
Merge 3 vertexs on each side. hands-012.jpg
Use Alt-JKey to make things quads again.
you will need to repeat for the 2 other spaces between fingers

Extrude each finger.
congratulations, you have finished your rough hand.
