VI Palm and Thumb

We have a triangle to get rid off at the base between fingers.
First do a knife cut as shown.

Merge and quadify. hands-083.jpg
Depending of the exact hand you are doing, you may want to merge the 2 vertex here. It really depends, none 2 hands are the same. This small quad can be usefull or introduce artefacts. hands-084.jpg
Divide the left edge. Merge the 3 vertex on right. Quadify. Repeat for 4 fingers. hands-085.jpg
Move selected edges to have a nice shape (you may turn on subsurf to check). hands-086.jpg
Knife cut at midpoint. hands-087.jpg
Move vertex according to picture (the farest one need to be rotated) . This will be the first hand ridge. Quadify. hands-088.jpg
Move edges according to picture hands-089.jpg
Knife loop cut (midpoint). Reshape corners of the cut hands-090.jpg
Quadify. Reshape. hands-091.jpg
Divide. Quadify. Reshape. hands-092.jpg
Intermediate loop between main ridges. hands-093.jpg
Move back border loops to create room for second ridge. hands-094.jpg
Second ridge position hands-095.jpg
Thumb base ridge. you will have to divide some edges and rotate. hands-096.jpg
Divide here. Quadify. hands-097.jpg
Again. hands-098.jpg
And again. hands-099.jpg
Quadify. hands-100.jpg
Rotate. hands-101.jpg
After some cleaning and shaping, you get a nice regular mesh, with edges placed neatly to add details later hands-102.jpg
Rotate. Quadify. hands-103.jpg
Midpoint knife cut. hands-104.jpg
Again. Shape a bit. You can now quadify the rest of the triangles. hands-105.jpg
extrude thumb. resize and smooth tip, taking care that the thumb is often much larger than high. hands-107.jpg
Extrude. You will need to rotate tip as you go. hands-108.jpg
Reshape base of thumb. hands-109.jpg
We wont go in details in shaping the thumb, it is exactly like previous fingers except there is only one joint. hands-110.jpg
We only need to mark the ridges now. exact Knife cut near the ridge line, then a second midpoint cur inside. Quadify each end. hands-111.jpg
Move inner edges down. hands-112.jpg
Again. hands-113.jpg
And again.

Congratulations you have finished the modelling. You will still need some tweaking, but the difficult part of the job is done.
